Job Description

Ledgent has partnered with a global energy trading company to identify a Crude Trading Risk Analyst for a direct hire opportunity. This position sits within the firm's risk management and analytics group and plays a key role in monitoring and analyzing the risk and performance of their North American crude oil trading desk. This is a front-office-facing role with significant exposure to trading, risk, finance, and senior leadership. The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative skills, a deep understanding of crude markets, and a passion for working in a fast-paced, dynamic trading environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily market risk exposures and P&L for the crude oil trading book
  • Investigate and explain drivers of P&L and risk changes (volume, price, optionality, time decay, etc.)
  • Collaborate closely with traders, operations, and risk control to ensure trade data accuracy and compliance with internal risk policies
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of risk models and analytical tools
  • Ensure timely reporting of risk metrics and escalate issues or limit breaches when necessary
  • Support stress testing, scenario analysis, and ad hoc risk analysis as requested by trading or senior management
  • Drive continuous improvements in reporting processes and risk systems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative field
  • 3+ years of experience in a trading risk, market analytics, or P&L control role within crude or energy commodities
  • Solid understanding of physical and paper crude oil products (e.g., futures, swaps, options, basis differentials)
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VBA); SQL or Python a plus
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems (e.g., Endur, Allegro, RightAngle) strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a time-sensitive environment
